Q. Who may enrol?
A. Psychologists, doctors and dentists are the only professional groups
who may do this training. If you are undergoing supervision towards
registration, and are thinking of doing the course, please discuss your
options with the Director of Studies.
Q. What are the fees?
A. Fees are determined by the Executive of SASH Inc. They cover all
lectures and lecture materials, library access, practical training,
supervision and support for your practical experience in using hypnosis
in your work, and assistance with the preparation of your case studies
from a Member of SASH. The total fee for the 2010-11 course is $3000.
Q. Is there recognition for prior learning?
A. SASH recognises other training that leads to full membership of
the Australian Society of Hypnosis (ASH), whether provided by the South
Australian Branch of ASH or by the South Australian Society for
Hypnosis (SAAH). These two state organisations amalgamated as SASH Inc.
in 2005. The South Australian Psychological Board (SAPB) currently
regulates the practice of hypnosis in SouthAustralia.
Q. What is the first step to enrolling?
A. You need to be an Associate Member of the Australian Societyof
Hypnosis (SAH). An application form can be downloaded by clicking on
the following link: ASH Membership Application Form.
Your application will not be "actioned" until January of the year
training starts (e.g., 2010) and you will be charged half the fee of
$79.95 (including GST) for that financial year. Thereafter,you will be
charged the full Associate Member fee of $159.90 per annum. Your
membership application is processed by the Executive of SASH (South
Australian Branch of ASH) and the fee is paid to ASH (the federal
body). The fee of $159.90 is correct at November 2009.
Q. When and where are lectures held?
A. Lectures and practical sessions will be held on 10 full days
(Saturdays & one Sunday) spread over 2010, plus one additional full
day in 2011. Training is usually held at College House, 15 Gover Street North
Adelaide. However, the first session of the 2010 course will be held at an alternative venue.
Q. Are there flexible delivery options?
A. SASH recognises that trainees might miss sessions for a range of
reasons (illness, work and family commitments, pregnancy). A record of
attendance is kept by the Director of Studies (DOS) and trainees are
encouraged to discuss any difficulties with their attendance with the
current DOS.
Q. Is there is syllabus?
A. Yes. SASH training follows the syllabus for ASH. A copy of the ASH syllabus can be downloaded from the website at www.ozhypnosis.com.au.
Teaching/tutoring on the course is provided by members of SASH who are
practitioners using hypnosis in their respective fields of psychology,
medicine or dentistry. The syllabus is currently being revised.
The minimum requirements for training are 30 hours of lectures and 50 hours of practical experience, over 18 months.
Q. In outline, what does the course cover?
A. Hypnosis: its theory and practice, general psychology, clinical
psychology, psychiatry, medical practice, dentistry, clinical
assessment of the patient/client, research and ethics.
Q. Are there exams?
A. Yes. The examination process leads to full membership of ASH and consists of:
- A practical demonstration of hypnosis
- Submission of 2 case studies or 1 research paper
- Written exam (3 hours) held in July/December of every year
- Viva (oral) held after the written exam
